I've been reading this forum using Google Translate since early 2020. To my mind this is the best NSU motorcycle related forum out there, so I wanted to take part in it, get some NSU related knowledge and share my project. Hope you all don't mind me posting and writing posts in English.
Here is a short introduction. So to start from the beginning - I have been into oldtimer motorcycles since I was 12 year old. As an Estonian I mostly have owned soviet motorcycles, I have lost count, but around 30 different examples. I have always loved the process of research, searching for parts, repairing and restoring motorcycles. I've also owned and still own one postwar BMW R35 but a pre-1945 motorcycle with larger displacement has always been my dream. In 2020 I got a chance to buy a 1937 NSU 501 OSL, or at least the seller claimed so. When I went to have a look at the motorcycle, it war buried under car tires and other junk. I took a few pictures and started the process of learning how much of original part does it have and do all the parts belong together. However, I only had half a day to decide if I wanted to buy it. The seller already had another "firm buyer" lined up. And I decided to pull the trigger and take a chance. I already knew that the NSU was put together from various parts, some of them self-made, throughout various model years. I calculated in my mind if this purchase turns out to be a total bust, I would still get my money back, and some extra, if I'd sell it in parts. Either way it was an emotional buy, as most of motorcycle purchases are

Enjoy the pictures of the newly purchased NSU and take a look at the various number of parts that have never belonged together.

Please bear in mind that these pictures are from 2020. Over the almost three years I've done research and collected parts. We will get into more detail about this NSU when I make a project topic into forum section "Our motorcycles".
